STUDIES IN ACETYLATION. THE FATE OF p-AMINOBENZOIC ACID IN THE RABBIT

چکیده

Acetylation as a means of detoxication is not very common. So far it has been observed in the case of amino compounds only (1). p-Aminobensoic acid, for example, is partially acetylated by the rabbit and eliminated as p-acetylaminobenzoic acid (2). It is conceivable that the acetyl group may be derived from carbohydrates, fats, or even proteins. In order to study this mechanism somewhat more in detail, the effect of the injection of insulin upon the acetylation process was examined. The observation of du Vigneaud (3) that insulin is inactivated by glutathione led us to extend our observations to the effect of the simultaneous injections of these substances upon the acetylation process.’

The metabolism of p-aminosalicylic acid in the organism of the rabbit.

The importance of p-aminosalicylic acid in the treatment of tuberculosis has been demonstrated both clinically and experimentally (l-6). The close structural relationships between benzoic, salicylic, p-aminobenzoic (PABA), and p-aminosalicylic (PASA) acid warrant a comparative study of the metabolism of these substances in the animal body.* Recent workers, interested in the behavior of PABA in ...

Spermidine/spermine n(1)-acetyltransferase catalyzes amantadine acetylation.

Amantadine acetylation was demonstrated to occur both in vivo and in vitro using transgenic male mice overexpressing spermidine/spermine N(1)-acetyltransferase (SSAT). We previously reported that neither NAT1 nor NAT2 was responsible for catalyzing acetylation of the primary amine group of amantadine. We hypothesized that the inducible polyamine-catabolizing enzyme, SSAT, was an alternate pathw...

Electropolymerization of 4-aminobenzoic acid containing nano-Au deposited on carbon paste electrode for determination of acetaminophen

The conducting polymer films have been widely applied in the field of electrochemistry owing to their goodstability, permselectivity, unique physical and chemical properties. A novel nano-Au/poly (4-aminobenzoicacid) (PABA) film modified carbon paste electrode was fabricated for sensitive detection of acetaminophenin this paper. The PABA film and nano-Au/PABA film were characterized by scanning...

Substrate selectivity of mouse N-acetyltransferases 1, 2, and 3 expressed in COS-1 cells.

Two human acetyl-CoA:arylamine N-acetyltransferases (NAT1 and NAT2) have been identified. Therapeutic and carcinogenic agents that are substrates for these isoenzymes (including isoniazid, sulfamethazine, p-aminobenzoic acid, 5-aminosalicyclic acid, and 2-aminofluorene) have been used to evaluate the role of the N-acetylation polymorphisms of NAT1 and NAT2 in the treatment of disease and differ...

Some factors affecting the acetylation of p-aminobenzoic acid in the rat.

The acetylation reaction involving detoxification of various aromatic amines both in vitro and in viva has become of new importance with the discovery by Lipmann et al. (1) that the coenzyme necessary for this coupling contains pantothenic acid. In an earlier paper (2), we gave evidence demonstrating that pantothenic acid is necessary for normal acetylation of p-aminobenzoic acid (PAB) by rats....
